Helping Endurance Athletes

Across North Devon & Beyond

Whether you are an athlete or a weekend warrior, you will have a training plan but what about your nutrition plan?  I offer a bespoke service, perfectly adjusted to your own lifestyle and sporting requirements.

Find Your Edge With Quality Nutrition

As well as laying the foundations for good all round nutrition, we will focus on these key areas:

  • Prepare: get in the zone with energy to burn
  • Sustain: boost endurance, push harder
  • Recover: recharge and repair

Good nutrition can be the difference between performing at your peak or burning out.

DNA Testing for Sports Performance

Our genes make us who we are, so naturally they impact every aspect of our health and wellbeing.  If you are interested in optimising your training strategy, looking at your genetics will enable you to train to your strengths, understand your injury risk, VO2 max response and recovery speed.  Your genes also give clues as to your antioxidant need, omega 3 need, vitamin B need, vitamin D need and your ability to handle carbohydrates, fats, lactose, caffeine and alcohol.

The test is very simple, it’s just a swab on the inside of the cheek.

As a cyclist that regularly participates in sportives, grand fondos and other competitive cycling events I felt that my performance was suffering. This was not due to lack of training but rather, due to a lack of proper nutrition. I mentioned this to my cycling coach who suggested that I reach out to Hazel for guidance. Initially, Hazel reviewed my current dietary habits as well as metrics from my training sessions and then over a series of one on one sessions she developed a nutrition plan that was tailored to my needs. Hazel has been an amazing nutritionist during my time working with her. Prior to events she has worked through all aspects of the event with me, developing a sound nutritional and hydration strategy as well as calculating the amount of caloric and fluid intake that I would require throughout the event. Through Hazel’s guidance, monitoring and encouragement I have seen my endurance and strength improve as well as my performance in events. I would definitely recommend Hazel’s services to any athlete looking to improve their overall nutrition as well as their performance.  The e-mail, Whatsapp and occasional Skype system worked brilliantly.

Find Your Edge With Quality Nutrition

There are key principles when it comes to fuelling before an event, however each individual is different and Hazel will get to know each athlete before developing a nutrition strategy.

Consuming the right amounts of carbohydrates before, during and after intense/long events will ensure that the body has enough energy to perform and recover.

Protein intake at key points is vital to a quick recovery and muscle growth, allowing you to maximise the benefits from your training.

Dehydration can be a major and dangerous factor in under-performance. During an endurance event your body may lose litres of sweat. Ensuring that you have hydrated properly prior to the event is just as important as your intake during and after the event.

Hydration for Sports Performance

Hydration for Sports Performance

In my experience adequate hydration is often overlooked beyond perhaps slipping an electrolyte tablet into the water bottle.  However dehydration can be a major and dangerous factor in under-performance. During an endurance event your body may lose litres of sweat. Ensuring that you have hydrated properly prior to the event is just as important as your intake during and after the event.
